Lisa Bagley Brown

Yesterday, the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) announced the appointment of Lisa Bagley Brown to its Board. Brown will be working with Board Members in overseeing the administration of the Board Certification program, including the organization’s finances, enhancing the value of Board Certification as well as increasing its public awareness.

“Board Certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law for nearly 30 years, Lisa has represented large national and international energy companies for more than that time and brings valuable insights to one of our largest and quickly growing specialty areas,” said Leo Figueroa, Executive Director of TBLS. “We’re thrilled to have her as she’ll help to greatly enhance our member base and value.”

Brown has been Board Certified since 1990. She handled litigation, drafting and negotiating upstream and midstream agreements as Managing Counsel for Occidental Oil and Gas Corporation for 12 years. She also served as Senior Attorney at Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Company, where she supported various groups. She is licensed with the State Bar of Texas (1984) and the Louisiana State Bar (1989). Brown often appears in various publications and currently practices in the Houston area.

“In Texas, legal Board Certification demonstrates that an attorney has met rigorous requirements and has expertise in a particular field of law,” said Brown. “I am honored to be on the TBLS Board to help assist businesses, organizations and the overall public in locating distinguished attorneys for important legal needs.”

She received her bachelor’s degree with high honors from The University of Texas at Austin and her juris doctor from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law.

The Board Certification program is administered by a 12-member board appointed by the President of the State Bar of Texas. All members are appointed to three-year staggered terms of office and are eligible for reappointment for one additional term.
